Cisco Case Study Essay Example for Free

Cisco Case Study Essay Cisco Systems is an industry head in arrange innovation. Their essential business is innovation that is utilized to empower correspondence with individuals everywhere throughout the world with different capacities. Regardless of whether it be email, voice video or general applications these administration are moved over Cisco Networks. The current CEO is John Chambers who has held the situation since 1995. This contextual analysis centers around his vision and system in the course of recent years. Cisco is a market chief in systems administration innovation. Budgetary Information: www. Bloomberg.com (1) Deals 2012 Sales/Revenue/Turnover: All out Operating Revenues. $46,681,000,000 Net Profit $28,558,000,00 Overall gain $ 8,356,000,000 Key Milestones in Cisco’s History (2) 1997 All in One: Data/Voice/Video 2000 Network of Networks 2006 Network as Platform 2008-Current Collaboration/Web 2.0 SWOT ANALYSIS Cisco’s’ inward qualities are its kin. They have a constructed an organization with more than 70,000 representatives. 1/3 of those are Engineering individuals who create Cisco’s arrangements. (2). These arrangements originate from inside structure or from acquisitions. There shortcoming is the size of the company contrasted with when they were in there early days. They challenges adjusting to client requests at the fast pace the innovation business changes. The open doors have accompanied the utilization of acquisitions. At the point when they need to add a bit of innovation to their portfolio they now and again sidestep the improvement procedure and secure an organization with the required skill. The significant dangers to the business are the quantity of workers who leave and go to contenders. A considerable lot of Cisco’s contenders are controlled by previous Cisco workers. See Juniper.com(7) Examination VIA PORTER’S FIVE FORCES MODEL Break down the serious condition by posting the danger of new participants, the haggling intensity of purchasers, the bartering intensity of providers, the danger of substitute items and administrations, and the force of contention among rivals in the business (Chapter 2). Sum up your key focuses in a Figure. (25 focuses) Cisco’s’ danger of new participants is constrained due to Cisco’s advertise top on organize Switching: Modular/Fixed (2) . They as of now hold a 69% market top sue to their structure and work of these gadgets. Their rivals have replicated and copied these items and there are just bunch that contend. The dealing power as a purchaser dependent on thre volume permits them to continue producing costs low. There providers thusly have solid haggling power with their silicon and chip fabricates. New Chipsets are grown quickly and providers can increase an upper hand over the producers. The danger of substitute items is a typical topic with Cisco. A model was a Chinese organization took Cisco’s plan and began creating copy equipment. Long stretches of case was later settled anyway the expense to do so was a significant effect. (3)This caused an extreme contention with its rival 3Com who cooperated with the Chinese organization (4). The other issue with its rivals is its ability pool. Huge numbers of Cisco’s engineers leave for contender bearing in mind the end goal of making the up and coming age of innovation. Technique USED Cisco’s upper hand in the exchanging market has driven them into being market pioneers in different divisions. Having the piece of the overall industry of the center system as the base layer of Infrastructure permits them to see the need of its clients. These segments have all been petitioners that use the Cisco center systems administration items that today has presented to them an industry piece of the overall industry in the accompanying zone. The center procedure utilized is there by and large cost authority to make this upper hand Execution Market share per segment Security 31% Advanced Video: IPTV-64% Exchanging: Modular/Fixed-69% Voice-37% Remote: LAN-54% Capacity: Area Networks-44% Directing: Edge/Core/Access-53% Organized Home-23% Web Conferencing-38% (2) One center procedure they utilized in the territory of separation was the presentation of Voice over the system. Voice is an inheritance innovation made more than 100 years back and up to this point was run with a similar unique structure ideas. Cisco changed that framework purchase running voice over the IP arrange. Today VOIP telephone frameworks are a norm and the first POTS (plain old pots lines) are currently viewed as inheritance. They utilized acquisitions to purchase telephone suppliers and separate there center basic and produce them on IP systems., permitting today the utilization of voice over your PC Email Text. They were fruitful in this space anyway not all organizations can utilize this system for this specific innovation. There introduce base is so solid the market is soaked and would not be financially savvy. This methodology anyway is presently in the development phase of the business life cycle. They contain 69% of the voice market and they are kept on developing. The center establishments will in the long run decrease anyway the administration to keep up the telephones frameworks will keep on staying in the development stage. Cisco’s technique depends on getting market transitionsâ€the showcase advances that influence our clients. With the expansion of video and collective Web 2.0 innovations, the system keeps on advancing from the pipes of the Internetâ€providing connectivityâ€to the stage that will change the manner in which we work, live, play and learn.â€â€"John Chambers, Chairman and CEO, Cisco THE ISSUES AND CHALLENGES FACING THIS COMPANY Cisco’s’ upper hand in certain segments can be kept up. The general advancement should proceed anyway more vulnerable segments where they have lost spotlight on have declined. In the case of the home Networked division they keep up a low 23% piece of the pie. This has not been inline what the projections were the point at which they entered these business sectors. As of late they have declared they are moving endlessly from the locally established market with an offer of their Linksys lien to Belkin (5) I accept the companies’ upper hand can be kept up on the off chance that they center around territories where they have control on piece of the pie. Shedding unbeneficial business, for example, Linksys is a positive development. This item is unmistakably on the decay side and Cisco should concentrate on development zones, for example, stockpiling region systems. The companies’ culture is changing from when they were a littler endeavor they had the option to move with advertise needs more rapidly. The savage rivalry in the home market was one of the organization issues. I accept that they are an undertakings company supplier of administrations and don't comprehend the necessities of locally situated clients. Game-plan RECOMMENDED I would encourage Cisco to concentrate on server stockpiling segments. They are not a market head in servers, for example, HP yet have new items that are changing the manner in which we organizations use servers. This is a separation procedure that will change the business whenever done accurately. They made a virtual server arrangement called UCS that if advertises effectively could accomplish future development in the server stockpiling division. (6) I would utilize my market force and client to base to give these arrangements requiring little to no effort and this will uncover an expansive client base to the item Feeling What's your opinion of this contextual analysis? Portray what you accept are the exercises gained from this case. (10 focuses) I think this contextual investigation indicated me new ideas in key administration. By examining Cisco’s advertise predominance dependent on 46 billion in incomes I presently comprehend that having an upper hand must be kept up. Seeing Cisco currently leaving markets is another bearing for them and these ideas have carried me to get that. English Literature Antigone Ismene Thebes

English Literature Antigone Ismene Thebes Antigone Ismene Thebes Inductive paper of Antigone In the play Antigone, composed by Sophocels, there are numerous confusions. The most significant occasion is the slaughtering of Antigone’s two siblings, Eteocles and Polynices. It was the fundamental motivation for the entire play. Everything begins in the wake of King Oedipus was expelled from the city of Thebes after he realizes that he has killed his dad, his more youthful child Eteocles announces to be the ruler, banishing his more established sibling Polyneices. Polyneices at that point assaults Thebes with a colossal armed force, however none of the two siblings wins the war since the two of them execute each other in battle. Creon at that point announces the realm of Thebes, and he concludes that Eteocles ought to be covered and regarded as a legend while Polyneices body shouldn’t be respected, yet it ought to be tossed in the lanes of Thebes left for pooches and winged animals to be eaten in mortification. Creon concludes that the discipline for attempting to c over the assortment of Polyneices will be demise. Antigone, Eteocles and Polynices’ sister, demands that her siblings body must be covered with the goal that his soul can find happiness in the hereafter, disregarding the wary guidance of her more youthful sister, Ismene. She goes to the battleground, pouring sand over Polyneices body and performing internment rituals. After that the gatekeepers finds that somebody was attempting to cover the body, they reveal the residue from the body, and they begins to search for who does that. Antigone returns demanding covering her brother’s body .She at long last permits herself to be caught in the wake of coming out of concealing when a few watchmen attempt to reveal the body once more, and an insubordinate Antigone is brought to Creon. He chooses to execute just Antigone since Ismenes is blameless and Antigone is sent outside of Thebes to starve to death in a cavern. Despite the fact that Antigone was only a young lady took off alone, she faces numerous deterrents without anyone else to do what she trusts it is directly with no worries about the results. The main hindrance that faces Antigone was her sister, Ismene. They were the main two relatives left after their father’s passing and their two brothers’ disgraceful war against one another and slaughtering each other in the war zone. Rather than supporting her sister, and attempting to keep what’s left of the family together, Ismene deserts Antigone and attempts to persuade her to comply with the king’s orders. The creator cites Ismene saying â€Å"The most noticeably awful of all in the event that we damage the laws and supersede the fixed announcement of the seat, its capacity we should be reasonable. Recall that we are ladies, we’re not destined to fight with men† (Sophocles 1144). Plainly Ismene is so terrified of Antigone’s choice to cover her sibling Polyneices. It is likewise clear how Creon, the ruler, put his dread in his people’s minds so he will has full command over his realm. Antigone doesn’t stress over Cre on’s discipline and chooses to proceed. The creator cites her noting her sister â€Å" So, do as you like, whatever suits you best-I’ll cover him myself. What's more, regardless of whether I bite the dust in the demonstration, that passing will be a glory.† (Sophocles 1144). This statement shows how decided Antigone is to cover her sibling without having any worries about the outcome. It likewise shows how she considers the demise a brilliance to her for doing what’s she accepts is correct. She considers respecting her sibling by giving sew the best possible entombment is her commitment. Antigone defeats this hindrance by pardoning her sister from joining her to cover their sibling. The second hindrance that faces Antigone is simply the ruler. He needed to drive his position and control over the realm after the unsettling influence that occurred in Thebes. He needs his requests and orders to be trailed by everybody. Creon makes a beast of himself to terrify his kin; he prefers force, authority, and to be complied. That’s why everyone was frightened and reluctant to resist Creon with the exception of Antigone. She did what’s right; she wasn’t even apprehensive when the gatekeepers captured her, she courageously gave up to them (1152). Creon felt that he lost his capacity and authority once Antigone ignore his requests. Creon says, â€Å"This young lady was experienced at rudeness when she abrogated the declarations we made open. Be that as it may, once she’d wear it-the discourteousness, twice over-to greatness in it, snickering, deriding us to our face with what she’d done† (Sophocles 1154). He considers Antigone’ s act an affront to the ruler without thinking about that she needs to give her sibling the best possible entombment to respect him as sovereign. That clarifies why he was so cruel in his decision to execute her by starvation. Antigone realizes that she is doing what’s right and she gives up to her fate to be executed. Then again she appears to decline to be executed by Creon, that’s why she murdered herself as though she considers slaughtering herself more respect than Creon executes her. The last deterrent that faces Antigone is her darling, Haemon, who was Creon’s child and who was extremely tragic that he’s going to lose his pride. Antigone considers her darling. She doesn’t need to bite the dust and leave him since she adores him to such an extent. She is between two troublesome choices. One of them is in the event that she chooses to step on what she trusts in and disregard her respected sibling to remain with her sweetheart, the other choice is to leave her darling and to kick the bucket for what she puts stock in. Antigone doesn’t consider her satisfaction; she preferably bites the dust in view of what she has confidence in over remains with Haemon. She beats this hindrance by choosing to execute herself. Haemon, then again, was utilized by Gods to rebuff Creon for his demonstrations. He was not persuaded with his father’s activities. Haemon states, â€Å"I see my dad irritating equity wrong† (Sophocles 1161). He procee ds with his discussion asking â€Å"Protect your privileges? At the point when you stomp on down the distinctions of the gods?† (Sophocles 1611). Haemon understands the way that his dad doesn’t acknowledge, is that he shames the divine beings. Haemon needs to disclose to Creon that regardless of what happened don’t resist or insolence the divine beings. Something else Haemon understands that Creon doesn’t understand that there is more remarkable power than Creon’s power which is the divine beings power. Creon feels that he has a definitive force and authority that’s why he can’t see Haemon perspective. Haemon goes to Antigone’s grave and he couldn’t see her executes herself in the front of him, so he murders himself. In the play, Antigone faces a ton of hindrances, and she beats them all. She doesn’t surrender, and once she feels that the king’s authority will cut her down, she chooses to end her own life instead of the foul play framework does. She is deciding to do what she feels is correct, regardless of what the laws of the realm says. She is inspiring by her commitments towards her family, and by her own convictions. She first faces her sister who is against her from the earliest starting point, since she fears Creon’s orders. Antigone pardons her sister from covering her sibling with her. Second impediment Antigone faces is the thorough ruler, Creon, who provides his severe requests that whoever cover Polynices will kick the bucket. Antigone doesn’t care about Creon’s orders; she realizes the outcomes will be capital punishment, yet she stands courageously before Creon. The last deterrent Antigone faces is her darling who is so enamored with her and he can ’t see her dieing. Antigone likewise can’t see her darling cries and she can’t leave him too. This is the most troublesome obstruction that faces Antigone. At last she slaughters herself when she finds that it’s more respect to murder herself than Creon executes her. Antigone realizes that she will kick the bucket for what she did. She put what she has confidence in before her and penances her own life to do what’s right.

Popeyes vs Kentucky Fried Chicken Essay

Popeyes: To be the world’s best brisk assistance café. Being the best methods offering extraordinary quality assistance, neatness, and worth, with the goal that makes each client in each café grin. SWOT Analysis: Strengths: The quality of Popeyes depends on its particular image and style of Louisiana fiery chickens that it furnishes on its menu alongside its chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, seared shrimps and other fish, jambalaya, red beans and rice and other provincial things. Popeyes is a profoundly separated brand with energy for its New Orleans legacy n tasty legitimate nourishments. Shortcoming: Popeyes is underdog to its sister organization KFC. About 90% of their residential eateries are packed in Tennessee and Louisiana. The majority of their eateries are situated in vigorously populated African-American neighborhoods; giving them higher odds of being looted and giving them a higher close-out viewpoint. Openings: Popeyes serves the food that the world hungers for and is proceeding to extend its worldwide reach. Popeyes works and establishments 1,977 cafés in 45 states and 26 remote nations and out of the 1,977 eateries 1,542 of them are local establishment cafés and 397 of them are global establishments. Around 55% of the universal establishments are situated in South Korea, Canada and Turkey. Dangers: Most of Popeyes’ areas can be established in urban neighborhoods. The nearby rivalry on neighborhood seared chicken eatery offer lower cost to Popeyes’ corporate estimating. There are poor client base in specific territories and cataclysmic events. The SWOT examination for the fate of Popeyes seems to be incredible. Because of more buyer needing the taste and feel of â€Å"southern hospitality† style food, numerous establishments are beginning to spring up in numerous areas across America and universally. With regards to the advertising part of Popeyes, the organization markets itself to a non-southern inhabitant base that has for a long while been itching to encounter the possibility of â€Å"southern hospitality†. Popeyes goes with being â€Å"Louisiana Fresh and Bonafide Fried Chicken†. With its blend of southern flavors, herbs and local nourishments on its menu; Popeyes carries the kinds of Louisiana to your taste buds. The bit of leeway that Popeyes have over their opposition is that they take into account a progressively different and global client base. They offer and have both residential and global diversifying if an individual local or remote needed to establishment a Popeyes area. Their universal diversifying reaches out similar to South Korea. It is claimed and worked by Yum Brands; a similar organization that possesses and work KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. One unmistakable favorable position is that all Popeyes establishments don't have a similar structure as you see a Pizza Hut and a Taco Bell or a KFC and a Taco Bell. One significant improvement that I feel Popeyes ought to enhance is its residential in minority based neighborhood for the wellbeing of its representatives and money related misfortunes and its minority base promotion idea. They should engage all areas and promote to the settlement of all. Popeyes sells chicken so their â€Å"target market† is anyone who likes chicken. So to make it progressively reasonable, their objective markets are youthful, single people, wedded couples and families and more seasoned residents who don't time at home to be in the kitchen consistently. Their age bunch goes as low as five and as high as 65. You would now be able to see Popeyes in all kind of neighborhoods: Black, White, Hispanic and Asians just to give some examples. In the event that you ever work in a Popeyes, you will see the assorted variety of the individuals who like singed chicken. The open door for development in this objective market is incredible. Since as the present market ages, they are as yet going to be shoppers of indistinguishable items from they have been and will support those that they bring along to be buyer of indistinguishable items from well. One impediment they ought to be worried about as an organization on the ascent is â€Å"disinterest† because of the absence of inventiveness in the event that they don't turn out to be progressively innovative and imaginative. As a human, the brain gets exhausting in the wake of doing and having something very similar again and again. They ought to likewise be worried of a stiffer rivalry advertise from their rivals. Everyone needs to be the main brand that is liked however the organization is continually thinking ahead and computing danger and awards to be the favored brand that stays the favored brand. Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC): The Kentucky Fred Chicken statement of purpose is â€Å"To sell inexpensive food in a quick, agreeable condition that intrigue to pride cognizant, wellbeing disapproved consumers†. Vision Statement: Food, Fun and Festival, this is the thing that KFC is about. Driving the market since its commencement, KFC gives a definitive chicken dinners to a Chicken Loving Nation. Be it Colonel Sanders mystery unique Recipe Chicken or Hot and Spicy Version, each nibble brings YUM all over. At KFC we can gladly say, â€Å"We Do Chicken right†. SWOT Analysis: Strengths: Kentucky Fried Chicken is a well known chain of brisk assistance chicken café that began from Louisville, Kentucky. The organization is turned into a sub-brand of Yum Brands in the year 2002 and profited significantly from the position and brand estimation of Yum nourishments. Previously, KFC chain of eateries developed at an extremely quick pace and has gotten today one of the biggest chicken cafés chain on the planet. KFC has been known to be a trailblazer in the chicken café fragment with a yearly offer of in excess of a billion dollars. The KFC as a brand is entrenched in the feasting out just as conveyance specialist co-op in the inexpensive food industry. Regardless of the passageway and nearness of numerous rivals in the inexpensive food industry the organization had the option to hold its huge faithful client base on account of its one of a kind contribution. Because of this explanation the KFC positions most elevated with regards to chicken café networks, accommodation eateries and assortment food supplier. KFC right now has in excess of 50% of the piece of the overall industry in cheap food industry and the new rivalries are thinking that its hard to catch any of its offer. Throughout the years KFC has increased incredible acknowledgment as a legitimate brand for inexpensive food considerably after the demise of Col. Sanders and has universally situated itself well in the business. Shortcomings: When different organizations in the chicken business were attempting to expand its piece of the overall industry; KFC couldn't contend well in the market or hold its clients. Likewise the extraordinary paper pails that is presently utilized by the KFC for conveying huge estimated orders was initially presented by Wendy’s café. The organization has entered such a significant number of business sectors in the past in the United States that its development rate was about just a single percent a year. KFC has said not to focus on its asset and improvement. Openings: KFC has been attempting to enter new markets and position itself in a portion of the difficult to enter markets like South America. With more ventures; the organization can make its position more grounded in the food business. Additional spending on the assets and improvement just as presenting new food things and items KFC can expand its piece of the pie and benefits. Dangers: The contenders of KFC have effectively caught a huge piece of the overall industry. As indicated by discoveries McDonalds has around 35 percent of the offer in Sandwich Segment though the Burger King claims around sixteen percent of the piece of the overall industry in cheap food industry. The neighborhood eateries in various nations where KFC has nearness represent a danger to the organization. The children of post war America framed the significant piece of the dedicated clients of the organization that currently have ages between 35 to 50 years and are probably going to move towards more beneficial nourishments. Different rivals in the business are constantly improving and attempting to enter new markets and increment their piece of the overall industry and deals. With the way of life of individuals changing because of developing mindfulness about more advantageous food individuals currently search for something sound, low calories and flavorful simultaneously. KFC as an organization is doing admirably in its worldwide positions and how it is the main favored brand in the â€Å"quick-administration chicken† café industry. KFC and all the more precisely, proprietors of KFC, Yum! Brands Inc. is the remote organization with the biggest nearness in China. KFC rules the cheap food advertise in China and is well over twice as extensive as McDonald’s there. KFC executed a superior procedure than McDonald’s in China. While McDonald’s attempted to remain consistent with their menu and kept their item offering in China fairly like what the remainder of the world knows (hamburgers and French fries); KFC fused neighborhood dishes with their renowned singed chicken. They likewise looked more to neighborhood workers to settle on major choices rather than simply taking their guidelines from the U. S. central command. This permitted KFC to enter the hearts, psyches and stomachs of progressively Chinese individuals. KFC have numerous favorable circumstances over their rivals as far as creation, advancement, and methods of speaking as per the general inclination of their objective market. Since its presentation into the American lifestyle, KFC has figured out how to consistently keep its unique new companies however yet adding new positive options to suit the requirements of every age. KFC gives a speedy and simple supper. It can likewise be purchased in huge sums. KFC can enhance its client assistance at specific areas. Despite the fact that its generally a diversifying based organization however yet the franchisee should willingly volunteer to prepare better and better prepare their establishments to hand the requests of their negative parts of their stores. The fascinating territory for development with KFC is in its universal markets. In the event that KFC can adopt a similar strategy that it took when it diversified in China, the outcomes will be progressively global speculations from various people who see the chance

At The First Of The Year Miss Schoonmaker Asked Us If We Thought Ameri

At the first of the year Miss Schoonmaker inquired as to whether we suspected America was a triumph or not. This made me think what are we going to discover that will make us figure our nation isn't a triumph? Well during the time I learned things that caused me to trust America isn't a triumph. Things that made me not have faith in America were the means by which we conflict with things we promise. Like the Constitution and how we treated blacks in the Civil Rights period. Another model is the American dream. The Dream was completely based principally on cash. Has it not been said that cash is the foundation of all malicious? Do we truly have faith in a nation that is dream is malicious? I accept the idea of the American dream brought us into common war. The North and the South both had their perspectives on what the American dream was. The Northern States needed the American dream accomplished for the entire nation to be mechanical, abolitionist subjugation, and very federalist. Upon these establishments they intended to make the U.S. a predominant country on the planet. The South needed to accomplish a similar extreme objective for the U.S. in any case, with horticultural, professional subjugation, and states sway establishments. These are the contrasts between the two sides in accomplishing the American Dream. So as to determine the irreconcilable circumstance, North and South needed to do battle to demonstrate prevalence in this manner demonstrating which side is the city upon the slope wherein the losing side would follow. The American dream later made us manufacture suburbia like Levittown where the nation was attempting to make all of us the equivalent. We had a similar house simply unexpected hues in comparison to every other person. This all raised the issue of congruity. America was attempting to satisfy a perfect that was not making sure about the gifts of freedom. In the best archive at any point composed the initial condition is a huge untruth. It says we will ...establish equity, guarantee household quietness, accommodate the regular guard, advance the general government assistance, and secure the gifts of freedom to ourselves and our posterity... Justice was not appeared by and large where a white individual had executed a dark individual and everybody realized the white individual was blameworthy, yet to not experience the ill effects of condemning the all white jury conceded. This was the situation in the Emmit Till preliminary. Emmit addressed a white woman and soon thereafter the white women's significant other and companion kidnaped Emmit and beat him with a slugger. Later Emmit was found in a stream. Everybody realized what had happened to Emmit and who had executed him however the white people who murdered him got off. They later admitted executing Emmit Till and nothing was finished. How is Justice guaranteed when we can't get a rea sonable preliminary? In the word reference it says that an adjudicator ought to have a feeling of equity. not the slightest bit was the United states satisfying the perfect of building up equity. How is the Nation protecting household peacefulness on account of Elian Gonzalez? Is breaking into a house in the night with weapons attracted to take a multi year old kid safeguarding national serenity? We have an image of a man with an assault rifle in Elians' face. The Nation woke up to the news in a hullabaloo. Demonstrators walked for quite a long time outside of Elians' House. On the off chance that we were attempting to keep the country quiet for what reason would we accomplish something like this? That isn't the best approach to develop our notoriety. On the off chance that we are attempting to be the city on a slope to every single other nation for what reason accomplish something like this? That isn't safeguarding tranquility in the Nation. Our country has bombed regarding the matter of assorted variety. The word assorted variety is firmly identified with segregation. Both mean or have something to do with individuals of various race, religion, or sex. It has been said the more different a thing is, the more quality it have. Than for what reason did America have such an issue with blacks? The south particularly separated the blacks and wouldn't go to indistinguishable schools from the blacks, drink from

Dislocation, Trauma, and Ambivalence in The Bees, Part 1 - Literature Essay Samples

For what its worth: Its never too late to be whoever you want to be. I hope you live a life youre proud of, and if you find that youre not, I hope you have the strength to start over. F. Scott Fitzgerald Every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants come to the United States. They all search for different things. Some come for refuge against civil and political unrest, while others come for a chance at a better life. Each immigrant has their own story. Each story is different because they all come from varying backgrounds and cultures. In Aleksandar Hemon’s short story, â€Å"The Bees, Part 1,† he represents his family’s experience of immigration and exile. His story presents the reality of his life dislocation, trauma, and ambivalence. In Hemon’s short story, the theme of dislocation is conveyed throughout the entire text, but is mostly focused on in the last chapter, â€Å"The Well.† He talks about his father writing another true book, The Well: a story about a well near the father’s childhood home, people from the village and their cattle, and their intersecting destinies. â€Å"[His father] remembers, that somebody’s mule escaped and came to the well, sensing water. But its head was tied to its leg that’s how people forced the mules to graze. The mule got away, found water, but then was unable to drink. It lingered around the well furiously banging its head against the trough, dying of thirst, the water inches away† (Hemon 73). This text represents that although the father is living in a new country with a new life, he cannot assimilate since the past is haunting him. He still carries the damage and anguish that comes with being an immigrant. No matter how hard he tries to fit in, he does not feel included in the mainstream community. Another theme in â€Å"The Bees, Part 1† was the theme of trauma, and the difficulties of dealing with it. For example, Hemon’s father was not able to accept fiction at all. This is shown in the first chapter of the story, â€Å"This Is Not Real.† Hemon explains how his father was yelling, â€Å"People, don’t believe this! This is not real!† to the audience watching a movie at the theater (Hemon 55). He also tells a deeper story of why his father does not like fiction. It took place when his father was in college and had a recurring dream full of danger, pain and mystery. Every morning his father â€Å"would wake up to face an audience simultaneously demanding the resolution and hating the prospect†¦[but] kept evading the conclusion, hoping it would come to him eventually. His audiences dwindled, until one of his roommates accused him of lying† (Hemon 56-57). This not only shows a background and history of why he does not like fiction, b ut it also gives the reader a deeper understanding of the father’s grasp on life after his experiences as a refugee. It conveys the fact that he is suffering from PTSD and cannot accept the reality that some people need fiction to have some sort of purpose in life. A final theme conveyed in this story is the reality of an immigrant’s life. Hemon represents that some countries specifically the United States and Canada do not understand the struggle of true labor and loss that immigrants and refugees have, since these countries are so privileged to live somewhere without war. He explains how his father became a beekeeper after meeting a Hungarian immigrant. Hemon says that he had â€Å"twenty-three beehives and collected a few hundred pounds of honey a year, yet was unable sell it,† and that, â€Å"Canadians don’t appreciate honey. They don’t understand it† (Hemon 73). This shows that when his father is talking about selling his honey, he is referring to the fact that the Canadians would not understand the experiences and pain he went through. However, though he cannot voice his experiences, the father is able to communicate with other immigrants well, because dislocation is the unspoken language of trauma. Ad ditionally, Hemon’s writing style portrays a lot of depth and meaning. It was abrupt, and was similar to the way of how his father attempted to restart his life over and over again. He presents that sometimes the American dream and perspective if you work hard enough you will be happy does not always happen in real life. Furthermore, he ended the story with a cliffhanger. There was no resolution and the audience will never know what happens, because in real life some cannot recover from certain trauma. There is just no cherry on top; no closure. Yet, he also conveys that though life is hard and absurd with â€Å"no meaning† and just â€Å"one thing after another,† when people get the â€Å"sweetness† life gives, one must cherish it. Throughout the narrative, Aleksandar Hemon conveys the sense of disorientation that can be a major characteristic of an immigrant’s life. The depth and breadth of his story is expressed through the exploration of his family’s experience of immigration. He uses specific diction to voice his family’s struggle of coming to a new country and attempting to become acclimated with the new social norms. Though he technically does not end his story, he was able to create a meaningful impact on the reader by concluding that some things in life have no solution, but the world keeps going on.

Gender Roles Essay - 2315 Words

Each society has binary oppositions as in masculine and feminine roles and the established values have little to do with nature and everything to do with culture. Moreover, the ideals and distinctions of masculine and feminine activities and behaviors are reinforced and redefined through powerful social norms of any particular period. In Medieval and early Modern Europe societies, gender roles were clearly defined by the strong prevailing social structure of the period and were constantly changing because of historical circumstances. For example, in the Greek ancient city of Sparta, masculinity as an ideal was strictly associated with the characteristics of being physically powerful, loyal warriors while femininity was related to marriage†¦show more content†¦The agoge taught boys survival and fieldcraft skills as a means to protect the city-state from invasions. Moreover, once a male turned twelve, the men in charge of the training regiment enforced the practice of pederast y (homosexual) because the most important masculine trait for men to possess was the ability to show steadfast loyalty to one’s military unit. This type of male custom had to be performed because the city-state believed this was the only way to ensure warriors formed a complete and unbreakable bond with each other and united the city-state. At the age of twenty, Hughes states that males received their rite of passage to warrior status and he now has acquired the privilege of going to the common mess and sharing a syssitia, a common meal, with the other seasoned warriors. While masculinity was associated with physical strength and loyalty, the ideals of femininity in Spartan society focused on taking care of the household duties while also spending countless hours perfecting their bodies and oratory skills through vigorous drills and training. Accordingly, Hushes asserts that Spartan women boasted about how they were as physically fit as their male counterparts and flaunted their oratory skills when out in the public area. Additionally, Hughes states that after marriage a woman’s gender role consisted of giving birth to as many healthy males as possible—the next generation of strong, fitShow MoreRelatedGender, Masculinity, And Gender Roles1380 Words   |  6 Pagesenvironment, but is instead, viewed from the perspective of women themselves. Ancient Greek And Roman Religion Essay - 1060 Words

The ancient Greek and Roman religion was the belief in God. They had similar views, but also some differences. It composed of many meaningful Gods and Goddesses that played the part in the everyday life of the average Roman and the Greek citizen. Before going into their beliefs and many strange legends, we must consider what kind of beings these divinities were. From history, there’s the first dynasty that consisted of the origin of the world, Uranus and Ge. The ancient Greeks had several theories regarding this origin. Uranus, the more defined, who represented light and air of heaven while Ge, the firm and flat, life –sustaining earth was worshipped as the all nourishing mother. The second dynasty is Cronus or as the Romans call him Saturn. Cronus was the god of time. He married Rhea, daughter of Uranus and Ge and had three sons: Aides (Pluto), Poseidon (Neptune), Zeus (Jupiter), and three daughter: Hestia (Vesta), Demeter (Ceres), and Hera (Juno) . In order to nullify the prophecy, Cronus swallows his children. But when it came to the last child, Zeus, Rhea saves Zeus and later dethrones his father. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades divided their fathers’ dominion. Zeus got the heavens, Poseidon the ocean and Hades the realm of the dead . Hera, the daughter of Cronus, was the wife of Zeus. Supply Chain Management System Tesco

Question: You are to identify the component activities for an organisation of choice then evaluate the performance objectives used by each and critically examine and suggest ways in which the performance could be improved? Answer: Introduction We are considering the company Tesco. It is known that Tesco is the second largest chain of retail in the UK and the fourth largest retail chain in the world. There are 12 countries in the world where the retail chain is present in the Europe as well as in Asia. Tesco is the market leader in the grocery division in the countries like Malaysia, Thailand, UK and Hungary and other countries. The retail chain was opened in the year 1924. Tesco being one of the well known retail chain in the world, and it has a well developed supply chain management system as well as performance objective measures (Annual Report and Financial Statements 2014, 2015). Though the company has a well developed supply chain there are certain changes that needs to be implemented into the system so that the company can prosper. The company ventured in the convenience store format when the retail chain opened the Tesco Express stores. 20000 stocks of the products can be hold by the large Tesco stores, thus it need s to have a well developed supply chain management (Fernie, 2004). A well developed supply chain is needed for the company so that the company can have the delivery of the goods at the correct time and they are able to receive the correct quantity of the goods at the correct window of the stores. Thus it needs to be seen that the services that the company provides to the people would not have been possible without the support of the service levels which the company gets. Supply Chain Management The process of supply chain management can be said as the process which is strategic as well as systematic in nature, it includes the tactics that can be applied to the processes of the business and also the other business that are associated with it. The main aim of the supply chain is to improve the long term performance of the company and also the companies that are associated with the company (Hines, 2013). Supply chain management process involves the process of sourcing, conversion as well as procurement and all the logistical activities of the company. There are certain players like the suppliers, customers and the intermediaries associated with the company, the work of the supply chain is to provide a coordination and collaboration among them (COMPETING THROUGH LOGISTICS, 2015). Thus it can be said that the main function of the supply chain management is to integrate the demand and the supply of the company as well as to the entire business that the company has. The supply chain process in Tesco The supply chain management system of Tesco relied heavily on the improvement of the process. This concept was used by the company in the sense that the company wants to create loyalty for the customers for life time basis. The supply chain of the company was in the process from the period of 1983-1996. During that period the company took some serious steps to improve the supply chain of the company. The electronic data interchange was introduced by the company, there were certain other services that the company took the initiative of like centralized distribution, scanning of the point of sale, automated control of warehouse and centralized ordering. The supply chain manager of the company at that time from the year 1985 to 2002 was Graham Booth (Retailgazette.co.uk, 2015). According to him this replenishment was triggered by the need of the customers. He felt that the need to have the same set of suppliers along the distribution centers of the company as well vehicles that supply t he goods to the company as well as the entire chain of the company would be ideal for the company (Xie and Allen, 2013). The company had 23654 stores in the year 2005 throughout the world out of which 1780 stores were in the UK. There were 12 countries where the internal operations of the company were spread. The company gained competitive advantage over the competitors and they tried to maintain that position. The company tried to do so, by incorporating innovations which was due to the demand of the customers. More over the company wanted to maintain a cordial as well as strong relation with the suppliers of the company so that they are able to get the goods on time and so that the company is able to deliver safe and sustainable product to the customers. The delivery process adopted by Tesco and the operation management Earlier delivery process- It was seen in the retail chain in the earlier tomes that the product was delivered to the depots of the company rather than the individual outlet of the company. During the late 80s and 90s it was seen that the company had 26 depots and the goods were delivered to those depots. Those depots were small and they were inefficient ('Tesco now plays a team game', 2000). It was also seen that the volume of the goods that were delivered to the stores were also low and it was not economic for the company to deliver the goods in one day. There were certain problems that the depot faced was that these were not able to handle the growth in the sales and the need for the high standard cooling as well as temperature control were not possible for the company. The problems faced by the company The customers- There was a way that Tesco carried out the business that was the company used to pile up the goods and they later sold those at cheaper rates to the people. This was the philosophy that the people believed earlier. As the people became richer, they started to demand more luxurious goods and expensive products (Sparks, 2015). There was a bad phase that was going for the company as the company was not able to deliver the goods as per the demand of the people. Several stores were closed at that time as the demand of the goods fell in the stores of Tesco. A few of the small capacity stores of the company were running which were refurbished so as to make the stores friendlier for the people. Suppliers- The supply chain and the logistic of the company were not developed and the company had to depend on the suppliers of the company for the supply of the goods to the retail outlets of the company. The large stores were able to afford the cost of the delivery from the suppliers but it was not possible for the small stores (Kamath, 2015). The method of the transportation of the goods from the suppliers was a problem for the company as the suppliers were not sure of how much to send to the outlets. With so many stores operating and with so much range of product it was not possible for the company to keep track of the products in all the stores. Employees- in order to benefit the employee the company introduced the system of EPOS (electronic point of sale) by which the company was able keep the track of the goods that were sold. When the customers make any purchase then the employees need to use the bar code reader so that they are able to record the transaction and thus they are able to tally the record with the stock keeping unit of the company (Ryle, 2015). The cumulative sales of the company are recorded in the information exchange of Tesco. Performance objectives of the company There are five performance objectives of the company they are quality, speed, dependability, flexibility, and cost. Quality- in order to maintain the quality standards the company used to order the only what was needed by the company for the next day. It was done so that there are no stocks left in the outlets of the company for the next day. Thus it increased the capacity of the depots as they were able to reuse the depots for stocking other products. The delivery in the stores is done by two waves (Special Topic Forum on Resources and Supply Chain Management, 2013). It is done in specific times and was delivered to the defined windows of the store so that the products were available to the stores throughout the day and thus it would support the changes in the demands of the people and also to maintain the quality of the items. Speed- the delivery of the goods at the right counter of the store is essential and at a faster rate so that the people are able to get the products at the right shelf at the right time. In order for the company to be efficient as well as fast, the company has several distribution systems so that the company is able to ensure that there is high availability if the goods and those are done in high speeds and are transported to the right block of the company (Jacobs, Chase, Aquilano and Chase, 2009). Dependability- Tesco is the third largest retail chain in the global retail business, the company has several diversified business in the area of telecoms, clothing, car insurance, internet services apart from the food and the drinks. The company has six ranges of stores that are operational under the Tesco brand. They are the Tesco Extra stores which are large in size, then the hypermarkets, Tesco super stores the Tesco metros and the Tesco express stores. Tesco was the first retailer that offered home shopping since the year 1996 (Lindgreen and Hingley, 2003). Thus the people can depend on Tesco as they are able to find a Tesco in every block of the neighborhood. Flexibility- flexibility is ensured at all the outlets of the retail chain so that it is able to serve the customers very well. The flexibility of the jobs is ensured so that the company are able to save the time. The company moves the products throughout their modern and proficient supply chain into their multi-format, well located network of store, which is ready for the customers to buy the products 24 hours a day (TESCO: A CASE STUDY IN SUPER MARKET EXCELLENCE, 2004). The company has made noticeable improvements in the process of supply chain; it has done so by shortening the length of the logistics programmes and focusing on attribution, traceability and greater control. Cost- the Company is upgrading their logistic practices in order to reduce the cost and improve the reliability of the suppliers. The radio frequency identification technology of the company takes the handles the additional responsibility of the distribution process (ComputerWeekly.com, 2015). The company operates in various countries thus there arises a need for the increased use of information technology Conclusion To be concluded that the process of supply chain and operation management is a system of associates which converts essential products that are called upstream, and the finished products or the downstream and these are valued by the end customers who are main evaluators of the products and the services at every level. More over the company is aiming to become a zero carbon company by the end of 2050. There are certain ideas that the company has incorporated like the Tesco in a Box which is a supply chain that are positioned when the company enters in a new country. It was seen that when the company enters in a new location in the foreign market there is erosion of the resources since each market are different from the others (Tesco and Society Report 2013, 2015). But it was seen that the standardized system of Tesco in the process of supply chain and the inventory management as well as operation of the store prevent the company from the erosion. The company tries to build a stronger r elation with the suppliers as well as the customers. The company decided to bring 1000 of the suppliers of the company under the hub in the hope that the company cut 30% of the emissions of carbon from the supply chain of the company by 2020 (Mentzer, 2004). The solution to the supply chain that the company got was aimed at reduction of the materials, waste, energy and the use of water. The company aims to achieve the objectives with the help of the 20000 professionals with in the wider community of the company under the knowledge hub of the company. Tod and business strategy

Strategies to attain growth The core objective every business growth strategy in a firm is to increase its sales revenue and the level of profitability within a particular time frame. Over the years it has been in operation Tod has continuously utilized traditional method of creating awareness regarding its new products.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Tod and business strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More One of the ways through which the firm achieves this is by having the shoe being endorsed by Diego Della Valle, the chairman of the firm by wearing it. In an effort to enhance the firm’s growth, the firm can adopt a number of growth strategies as discussed herein. Market penetration The traditional method of assessing whether its new style of shoe is successful in the market is not effective. This has greatly hindered the firm’s ability to increase its profitability. This arises from the fact that the traditional method adopted is limited with regard to its market coverage. The resultant effect is that the firm’s ability to penetrate the market is has been hindered. To improve its sales revenue, it is paramount for the firm to adopt market penetration strategies. For example, the firm should improve on its marketing efforts in a number of ways. One of these ways relates to creating awareness regarding its new shoes. Under the direction of the chairman, the firm should incorporate the concept of integrated marketing communication in its effort to create market awareness. To be successful the firm has to incorporate traditional and emerging market communication methods. Some of the tactical actions which the firm should adopt include advertising, public relations and sales promotion. In its advertising strategy, the firm should integrate different mediums such as the print media, the television and radio. Additionally, the firm should also consider increasing its s ales revenue by incorporating electronic marketing through integration of the internet technology. Considering the fact that Tod is a multinational firm, electronic marketing would enable information about the firm’s product to reach a large number of customers. This is due to the fact that a large number of individuals access the internet on a daily basis.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More For internet marketing to be successful, there are a number of tools which a firm can use. Some of these tools include the social networking tools for example Facebook and You Tube. For example, through these social networking tools, the firm can post photos of its shoes being worn by famous individuals such as Princess Stà ©phanie of Monaco and Gwyneth Paltrow and its handbags being wielded by Hillary Rodham Clinton. This will act as an endorsement of the firm’s products he nce attracting a large number of customers. The resultant effect is that the firm will be able to increase its sales revenue hence attaining growth objective. In its market penetration strategy, it is vital for the firm’s management team to consider undertaking process improvement. In order to achieve this, the firm should consider producing its shoes and handbags in markets which are cost effective. For example, the firm can set up production plants in China where production is cost effective. This will greatly enhance the firm’s pricing strategy. For example, the firm will be able to set the price of its shoes at a lower point and at the same time cover its production cost and operates to profitably. This is due to the fact that a large number of customers will be able to afford the firm’s shoes (Birkholz, 2007, p.34). For example, a men’s crocodile loafer costs 3,500 Euros which approximately equals $4,850 in Italy with its cost of production being equ al to 1,590 Euros. However, producing the same shoe in China would cost the firm half the cost incurred by producing it in Italy. Product development The designer shoe and handbag industry is saturated as a result of the large number of firms in the industry. In order to enhance their competitiveness, firms in this industry have to undertake product development strategy. The strategy entails designing new products and marketing them in its existing market. The firm should also consider developing new leather products to market in its existing market. For example, the firm can consider improving the features and design of its existing shoes. Product development will help the firm to counter direct competition.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Tod and business strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More One of the ways through which firms can achieve this is by conducting a comprehensive research and development. Ad ditionally, the firm should consider integrating new technology to enhance its product development. This will play a vital role in increasing the firm’s profitability considering the fact that the firm is already aware of the conditions existing in the market. Diversification strategy It is important for Tod’s to consider diversifying its products. To attain this, the firm should implement new product development strategy. This strategy involves developing new products which are not related to the existing products. The new products are to be introduced in new market segments. Diversification strategy is relatively risky and a firm must have core competencies in order to succeed. In its diversification strategy, Tod’s can consider designing leather jackets. There is a high probability of the firm succeeding in the new market segment considering the fact that it has substantial knowledge with regard to leather. Market development According to Barret and Mayson (2 007, p. 307), market development is one of the main business growth strategies which is adopted by small firms in an effort to grow. However, also large firms can use the strategy to entrench their competitiveness. Over the years it has been in operation, the firm has been risk averse, which is illustrated by the declaration of its chairman that Tod’s does not take risks. This limits the firm’s ability to grow. The firm should venture into new markets by expanding its geographic coverage. For example, the firm should venture into emerging economies where it can market its products. This can be achieved through a number of ways such as by opening outlets in these countries. Alternatively, the firm can expand its market coverage by expanding its distribution channel through exporting. This will have the effect of increasing the firm’s customer base ( Barret Mayson, 2006, p. 447). According to Jankovsky (2007, p.64), overtrading arises from lack of a business unde rstanding its time frame and not following the set policies in its trade system. In most cases overtrading arises from a firm’s effort to attain its growth objective. As a result, it increases its operations.Advertising Looking for report on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Currently, the firm has a policy which stipulates that the stock days should be 60 days. This means that the firm’s average carrying period is 60 days before it restocks. The suggestion to increase the firms’ stock days by one third, that is 20 days would lead into an increment in the carrying cost. Assuming that the firm’s operations are not affected by changes in the business environment, the firm’s profit would be reduced due to increased carrying cost. For example, the firm would be required to pass on the cost to the consumers by increasing the price of its products. This would culminate into a reduction in the firm’s annual sales revenue from the average amount of 10 million pounds. Additionally, reduction in sales revenue would also lead into a reduction in the firm’s gross profit margin. To ensure efficiency with regard to cash flow, the firm has instituted a credit policy whereby its debtors are required to pay the debt within a per iod of 30 days. However, one of the managers has made a suggestion to increase the credit period to 90 days. This is considered to be a traditional method to achieve growth. Traditionally, most firms ensured that they have instituted good credit terms in an effort to increase sales revenue. According to Vause (2009, p.76), adopting this strategy in their sales policy can contribute towards firms attaining a rapid growth in its sales revenue and hence its profitability. Currently, almost half of the firm’s customers who purchase on credit pay within a period of 30 days as stipulated in the firm’s credit policy. The remaining customers pay within a period of 60 days. Its average bad debt is equal to 1% of the firm’s sales which is a relatively small amount. By increasing its credit period to 90 days, there is a high probability of the firm experiencing liquidity problems. This arises from the fact that the customers may take more time before paying the debt thus a ffecting the firm’s cash. Additionally, the customers may opt to get their supplies from a different source which makes the firm to be exposed to more cash flow crisis. For example, a firm may run out of cash thus hindering its ability to continue operating. In an effort to alleviate the problem, the firm may result into credit finance such as overdrafts which are costly since the applicable rate of interest for an overdraft is usually higher than the base rate. Currently, the firm’s rate of interest on its overdraft is 7% higher than the base rate. Considering the increment in the level of uncertainty amongst financial institutions as a result of the 2008-2009 financial crises, there is a high probability of these firms increasing their base interest rate on overdrafts. This would have the effect of increasing the borrowing cost. Over trading leads a firm to expand its operations at a faster rate than its usual capacity. The result is that the firm’s operations are negatively affected since the firm’s working capital is not sufficient to cater for the extra human capital, equipments and machinery required. To avoid this, the firm may consider leasing some of the equipments and machinery required for expansion other than purchasing them. This would caution the firm from experiencing cash crisis since leasing is relatively less costly in the short term compared to purchasing. By leasing, the firm would be able to cover the cost by reaping the benefits in the short term. In addition, the firm is required to wait for a substantial amount of time before collecting sales revenue from new contracts. The resultant effect is that the firm experiences liquidity problems which in worst situation can lead into the business being closed. This arises from the fact that overtrading leads firms to incur cash flow problems. In addition, the cash flow problem is exacerbated by the fact that a substantial amount of money is held up in the large volum e of stock either in form of work-in-progress, finished goods, and raw materials held in the firm’s warehouses. Ultimately, implementing these strategies would lead into a strain in the firm’s finances. Human resource management According to Hannigan ( 2007, p.23), human resource management entails a number of processes such as deploying employees, motivating and developing them with the objective of achieving predetermined organized goals. Firms should not only be concerned with attaining their goals by using the employees. However, they should take into account the various levels of employees needs. These needs relate to psychographic needs, belonging needs, self actualization needs, esteem needs, and safety and security needs. In order to achieve its organizational objectives it is paramount for firms to formulate effective personnel and human resource management concepts (Ferris, 2006, p.1). By taking into consideration these needs, there is a high probability of f irms developing a strong human capital. In its effort to attain a high growth, the owner of Tod’s Luxury Shoes decided to expand the firm. This required the firm to increase its workforce so as to attain operational efficiency. However, the productivity of the workforce is dependent on the management teams’ effectiveness in human resource management and personnel management processes. According to Hannigan (2007, p.23), human resource management entails a number of management functions which include employee recruitment, selecting the qualified employees, and training the employees to ensure that they are productive. By undertaking a comprehensive employee recruitment process, the firm will end up with diverse employees. This can be a challenge to the firm. However, it is the responsibility of the firm’s human resource manager to ensure that employee diversity is well managed. This will play a vital role in ensuring that unity within the firm is maintained. The resultant effect is that the firm will benefit in the long term. Reward system For example, the firm has to ensure that the employees are satisfied. One of the ways through which the firm can achieve this is by instituting an effective reward system. The reward system should comprise both monetary and non-monetary rewards. Some of the non-monetary rewards which the firm should consider include medical allowance and recreation allowance. In addition, the firm should include a program aimed at recognizing the employees who portray outstanding performance. This will play a vital role in motivating the employees. Additionally, integration of an effective reward system will lead towards minimizing employee turnover since the employees will be satisfied. According to Rutherford, Buller and McMullen (2003, p. 322), employee turnover is costly to a firm since the firm has to replace the employees who leave the firm. Conducting a recruitment increases the firms cost of operation. In addition , the management team should ensure that the reward system is based on employee performance. For example, the firm should ensure that a comprehensive performance appraisal forms the basis upon which the employees are promoted. Promoting employees increases their level of satisfaction. Employee development In addition to promotion, it is paramount for the firm’s management team to consider developing a training and development program which facilitates workplace learning. According to Walker (2007, p. 294), firms should develop training programs that are inline with the changes in the market. This will aid the firm’s towards enhancing its competiveness. For example, training will contribute towards improving the employees’ efficiency in undertaking their current tasks (Brand Bax, 2002, p.451). On the other hand, development will enable the employees’ deals with future changes in their works. This is due to the fact that obsolescence in its workforce will be eliminated. This means that the firm’s future success is enhanced. Investment in workplace learning illustrates a firm’s commitment towards developing its workforce. Training employees will contribute towards improvement in the employee’s morale. In most cases, employees who are well trained are interested in undertaking their tasks. This will not only enable Tod’s Luxury Shoes to be effective in designing and producing shoes but it will also lead to employee development. The resultant effect is that the employees will develop a strong bond with the employees since it will enable them to achieve their career objective. According to Aswathappa (2005, p.5) assisting employees to realize their personal goals improves their contribution towards the firm’s operational efficiency. However, it is only possible for a firm to ensure that its employees attain their personal goals if they are motivated and retained within the firm for a considerable durati on of time. If this is not attained, the employees will leave the firm. The training program will also contribute towards the firm attracting qualified employees from the labor market hence strengthening its human capital. According to Bratton and Gold (2001, p.58), integrating employee development is a core element in a firm’s effort to survive and attain growth in the current competitive business environment. Effective communication It is also important for the management team of Tod’s Luxury Shoe to ensure that communication within the firm is effective. One of the ways through which the firm can achieve this is by instituting a bottom-up communication system. According to Goyal (2005, p.258), communication is a vital component in the success of the firm. This is due to the fact that the firm’s decision making process is enhanced since employees share ideas, opinions, and facts with the management team. This means that communication aids in enhancing the deve lopment of a superior –subordinate relationship. This relationship cannot thrive in the absence of an effective communication. By adopting the bottom-up communication strategy, employees will feel that they are included in the firm’s decision making process process. This leads into attainment of the desired results. This will have the effect of enhancing employee satisfaction. The firm should also ensure that it nurtures a strong organizational culture. This can be achieved through a number of ways. For example, the firm can incorporate the concept of teamwork. This will aid in enhancing employee relationship within the firm. Teamwork will also aid in creating an environment conducive for working. This arises from the fact that the level of coordination between employees will be improved. In summary, implementing the above human resource management and personnel management practices will contribute towards the firm being successful in its effort to manage its workforce .
